常春藤又一本好书诞生，这是一本专为出国旅行而写的好书。

近年来，由于经济发展，人民生活水平也相对提高，很多人有机会利用闲暇出国旅行，而旅途中，英语往往是不可或缺的利器；但本社常常接到出过国的读者打电话到常春藤诉说在书店里翻看书籍时，无法找到较为实用完整的旅游英语，真正遇到问题时，常有英语无用武之地之憾。有鉴于此，常春藤全体中外编辑很慎重地开了一次会，其中台湾大学教授Bruce Bagnell, 亦即赖世雄老师的好搭档，自告奋勇愿意编写这本书，经开会讨论后，采取下列步骤完成本书：

(1) 故事性叙述。作者身历其境地由纽约出发，前往荷兰，途经德国，进入丹麦和瑞典等国旅行。

(2) 详细叙述出国前所需的准备工作。如：预订班机、安排住宿等，以及登机至出关的一切过程，包括各项机场手续、入境与海关问题，同时还对生活上饮食、住宿、交通等实际需要巨细无遗地加以描述。

(3) 要求句型洗练、实用。

Bruce执笔完成英文稿后，在赖老师的组织下，本人承蒙赖老师指定要求负责翻译、校对及编排工作，甚感荣幸，于是全力以赴，以不负众望。经过两年的辛劳，在大家同心协力之下，终使本书顺利付梓。

为方便读者学习英语，增强口语能力，本书特别配制了磁带2盘(共120分钟)。相信读者认真模仿和学习后，必能信心大增，享受富有乐趣的国外之旅。
