故事讲述了秦朝末年，楚汉相争。刘邦与项羽约好鸿沟为界，各自罢兵。韩信命李左车诈降项羽，诳项羽进兵。韩信在十里山下设下十面埋伏，将项羽困于垓下。项羽突围不出，在军营内听得四面楚歌，疑秦军尽以降汉，于是与虞姬饮酒作别。虞姬自刎帐前，项羽杀出重围，迷路到乌江，感到无颜面对江东兄弟父老，自刎在江边。

Farewell My Lady is set in the period of war between the Chu and Han states in the late Qin Dynasty. The kings of the Chu and Han states, Xiang Yu and Liu Bang, had agreed on an armistice and each ruled one side of the Hong Canal. However, Han Xin, a talented general of the Han state, asks Li Zuoche to feign surrender to Xiang Yu and thereby trick him into marching forward. Thereupon, Han Xin sets up an ambush on all sides for Xiang Yu in a canyon at the foot of Jiuli Mountain and succeeds in surrounding him at Gaixia. Xiang Yu’s army tries but is not able to break out of the encirclement. One night, Xiang Yu is startled to hear folk songs from the Chu region being sung all around his c this leads him to mistakenly believe that the Kingdom of Chu had already been conquered by Han troops. Thereupon, Xiang Yu goes to say farewell to his beloved Lady Yuji and drinks with her for the last time. Yuji then commits suicide in front of him. Later, Xiang Yu is able to break out of the encirclement but then loses his way. At the bank of the Wu River, he feels too guilty and ashamed to return home and face his people on the east bank of the Yangtze River.  us he ends his life by sli ing his throat with his sword there.  is sad and beautiful love story has le a lasting mark in history.The tragic moment when Yuji dies for love and Xiang Yu comes to the end of his career as a hegemon has been staged as a Peking Opera play. This story has deeply moved generations of people, and been recognized as the most classic and soul-stirring legend of the Chinese classical love stories.

孙萍，京剧表演艺术家。女，回族，1961年生于北京。第十届、十一届全国政协委员、政协外事委员会委员、国家京剧院著名演员、著名京剧教育机构富连成社社长叶春善传人，并兼任中国人民大学国剧研究中心执行主任、北京外国语大学艺术研究院院长、北京外国语大学公共外交研究中心执行主任、匈牙利裴多菲大剧院特邀导演、美国耶鲁大学戏剧学院客座教授、宾夕法尼亚大学音乐系客座教授、中美文化交流学会会员、中法文化交流协会会员，还曾长期担任全国青联常委。
