讲述了明朝，陕西孙家庄少女孙玉姣坐在门前绣花，被青年陕西指挥傅朋偶然看见。傅朋爱慕上孙玉姣，便借买鸡为名，和孙玉姣说起话来。傅朋的潇洒多情也打动了孙玉姣的心。傅朋故意将一只玉镯丢落在她的门前，孙玉姣便含羞地拾起了它，表示愿意接受傅朋的情意。两个人的心愿都被刘媒婆看出了，乃访玉娇，诱出真情，她便出头向孙玉姣索要信物绣鞋，帮这对有情人撮合这件好事，完成了这幕喜剧。

《拾玉镯》又名《买雄鸡》、《孙家庄》，是发生在中国明朝正德年间（1505年—1521年）的故事。讲述了明朝，陕西孙家庄少女孙玉姣坐在门前绣花，被青年陕西指挥傅朋偶然看见。傅朋爱慕孙玉姣，便借买鸡为名，和孙玉姣说起话来。傅朋的潇洒多情也打动了孙玉姣的心。傅朋故意将一只玉镯丢落在她的门前，孙玉姣便含羞地拾起了它，表示愿意接受傅朋的情意。刘媒婆看出了两个人的心愿，乃访玉姣，诱出真情，她又出头向孙玉姣索要信物绣鞋，帮这对有情人撮合这件好事，完成了这幕喜剧。两人终结百年之好。这是一出由花旦、小生和彩旦应工的做工戏。
Picking up the Jade Bracelet, also known as Buying a Rooster or Sun Village, is from a story that takes place in the Ming Dynasty, under the reign of Emperor Wuzong (1505—1521). It is a comedy in which Fu Peng, a young official from Shaanxi, falls in love with the girl Sun Yujiao at first sight when she sits embroidering in front of her house in Sun Village, in Shaanxi. Fu Peng desires to speak with Yujiao so he pretends that he wants to buy a rooster from her; meanwhile, Fu’s charming manner and affection also strike the girl. He deliberately drops a jade bracelet in front of her house and Yujiao picks it up with a shy look, meaning that she accepts his love. Matchmaker Liu visits Yujiao and manages to make the girl open up to her. She asks Yujiao for a pair of embroidered shoes as a pledge of her love and gives it to Fu Peng. In this way the two young people eventually tie the knot. This is a play that particularly emphasizes acting, with role types including huadan, xiaosheng, and caidan (this last played by the actors of chou roletype).

孙萍，京剧表演艺术家。女，回族，1961年生于北京。第十届、十一届全国政协委员、政协外事委员会委员、国家京剧院著名演员、著名京剧教育机构富连成社社长叶春善传人，并兼任中国人民大学国剧研究中心执行主任、北京外国语大学艺术研究院院长、北京外国语大学公共外交研究中心执行主任、匈牙利裴多菲大剧院特邀导演、美国耶鲁大学戏剧学院客座教授、宾夕法尼亚大学音乐系客座教授、中美文化交流学会会员、中法文化交流协会会员，还曾长期担任全国青联常委。
